Nero Burning ROM, commonly called just Nero, is an optical disc authoring program. As of version 6, the program has been a part of Nero software suite. It features new cutting-edge functionality. Create, rip, copy, burn, edit, share, and upload online. Whatever you want – music, video, photo, and data – share with family and friends. Nero 7 essentials requires 1.98 GB on hard disk, much more than other programs for the same purpose require.

Complete removal is impossible without special programs.

After the deinstallation of Nero there are still over 50 entries in the systems registry (regedit), which one must delete separately.

Nero Burning ROM works with a number of optical disc image formats, including the common ISO image and Neros proprietary NRG file format. Depending on version more formats may be natively supported.

To use more formats, particularly lossless FLAC, Wavpack, and Shorten, it is necessary to install additional program modules. The modules, called plug-ins or codecs, are often freely available. Nero AG sells some video and proprietary audio plug-ins.

When in the past a Nero backup of a music CD would play on your home stereo as well as in your car, this is no longer the case. Backing up your music CDs will produce a CD that is only playable on a PC.
